Slow Cooker Chili

Slow Cooker Chili

Slow cooker chili made with ground turkey is healthy, hearty, and 100% customizable.  This recipe can also be used with ground beef, chicken, or pork.  It’s best when made in a slow cooker or crock but, but can be cooked over the stovetop in a deep pot.  Customize your vegetables, such as onions, bell peppers, diced tomatoes, carrots, green chilies, or corn.  Pick a type of bean, such as, kidney, cannellini, great northern, garbanzo, pinto, or chili.  Mix and match to find your favorite combination.  Add tomato sauce and spices.  There you have your very own chili.

In this slow cooker chili recipe, I used ground turkey, kidney beans, onion, bell pepper, tomato sauce, and an assortment of spices.  I kept is simple and mild with the spices.  At the bottom of this page, there are some kitchen products that helped me make this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 (24 oz) jar tomato sauce, or 3 cups
  • 1 (15.5 oz) can kidney beans, drained
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 0r 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions:

First, in a skillet cook ground turkey until golden brown.  Discard any grease.

Second, measure and add all ingredients into a slow cooker or crock pot with the cooked ground turkey.  Give it a quick stir.  If you like your chili to have a little kick, add 1/4 tsp cayenne powder or 1 tbsp sriracha sauce.

Third, cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.  Remember the longer you let it simmer in the slow cooker, the more flavorful it becomes so I recommend cooking it on low for 6-8 hours.  You may use a pot over the stovetop.  Cover and simmer on low for an hour, stirring occasionally.

Serve chili with cornbread, a dollop of sour cream, and sprinkle some chives and shredded cheese over top.
